As a Tax Manager – Opportunity Zone Specialization, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Assist clients with large capital gains in structuring their Opportunity Zone Funds and Opportunity Zone Businesses for maximum deferral and operating efficiency
- Build technical competence by keeping up to date on trends, developments and technical authorities, and applies them to client situations
- Develop and maintain strong client relationship with key stakeholders and prospective clients
- Monitor federal and state legislation
- Assist with OZ-related articles and technical presentations
- Work closely with clients to advise on income tax issues and tax planning
- Provide high-level review of federal and multi-state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and as it pertains to the federal Opportunity Zone program
- Responsible for meeting engagement timelines and budget guidelines
- Provide job status updates to partners and client personnel in a timely manner
- Oversee planning and scheduling of client engagements
- Supervise expectations of engagement teams, project manager and maintain due dates
- Research technical and complex tax issues
- Manage, coach, and provide ongoing feedback to Seniors and Staff
- Effectively utilize and train others on firm tax preparation software
- Develop strong relationships with firm professionals and clients
- Attend networking events and participate in staff and senior level trainings, recruiting events and firm activities
- Ensure high quality of work product
To be successful, these are the skills and experience you will need:
- 5+ years of experience depending on relevant work experience
- Bachelor’s degree; Master’s Degree in Taxation a plus
- A licensed CPA or Enrolled Agent
- Proficient knowledge Subchapter K and handling complex partnership returns
- Some exposure to the federal Opportunity Zone program is a plus
- Demonstrated management, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to influence and resolve operational issues
- Can learn, teach, and supervise in a fast-paced environment and is receptive to feedback and coaching
- Ability to identify and propose resolutions to complex tax issues
- Has a high level of attention to detail
- Has a positive attitude and a team player mentality with a can-do spirit
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Proficiency in Thomas Reuters, GoSystem, ProSystems or equivalent is preferred
